Laura Louise Wayne Delehanty has been named to the Juniata College, Huntington, Pa., 2014 Spring Dean’s List. To make the list, students must have at least a 3.6 grade average. She is the daughter of Steven J. Delehanty and Wendy A. Wayne.

Military News

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class William D. Marsengill Jr. graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Marsengill earned distinction as an honor graduate.

The following students made the spring 2014 semester Dean’s List at Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C.: Sarah Cobb of Ninilchik, a senior majoring in nursing; Caleb Daniels of Ninilchik, a senior majoring in business with a concentration in trades; Joanna Daniels of Ninilchik, a sophomore majoring in graphic design; Esther Knox of Ninilchik, a sophomore majoring in accounting, and Carla Pherson of Ninilchik, a junior majoring in piano pedagogy. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.0 grade point average.

The American Legion Post 16 Auxiliary is providing poppies from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Safeway. People are asked to join the Auxiliary in recognizing the sacrifices of our veterans by wearing a red poppy this Memorial Day weekend. Donations are accepted to help support veterans programs. Poppies also are available at local businesses.

The Kachemak Bay Birders meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center auditorium. Following the meeting there will be a presentation by Aaron Lang on the identification of shorebirds. Come and learn some ways to tell them apart and enjoy a preview of the birds that will start arriving in Homer in mid- April. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge. The Homer Fish and Game Advisory Council holds an informal drop-in workshop on proposal writing from 5-7 p.m. today in the Homer Public Library Conference Room. The workshop is for members of the public interested in submitting proposals for the upcoming board cycle addressing the Kenai Peninsula or learning more about the process. They’re looking for people who would be willing to tell brief anecdotes of their experiences of the 1964 earthquake.
