Nutcracker Faire provides artisans place to sell wares

The Homer High School Commons buzzed like a holiday-themed beehive during the Nutcracker Faire sponsored by the Homer Council for the Arts on Dec. 3-4.

Craftspeople and a variety of other vendors packed booths into the Commons and the gymnasium at the high school, maximizing shoppers’ opportunities for finding locally made holiday goods.

Students explore science, math on summer break

Homer High School senior Eryn Gillam and Nikolaevsk School sophomore Chelsea Johnson chose to spend five weeks of their summer learning.

The girls are in their second week of the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program’s Acceleration Academy at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where they are participating in hands-on activities and taking classes for dual high school and college credit along with 60 other students from across Alaska.

Golf tournament benefits Hospice of Homer

The seventh annual Hospice of Homer golf tournament fundraiser gives golfers of all skill levels the chance to play, have fun, and even win a prize or two. 

The tournament will be held at The Tips Golf Course, a par three, nine-hole course out East End Road with a breath-taking view of Kachemak Bay, on June 11 said Hospice of Homer board president Richard Kleinleder. The day starts at 9 a.m. and all proceeds benefit Hospice of Homer.
