With all of the absentee and questioned ballots counted in Kenai Peninsula Borough elections, Mike Navarre has emerged as the winner of the race for Kenai Peninsula Borough mayor, according to the borough’s unofficial results.
In Homer, after the city canvass board reviewed absentee and other ballots on Oct. 10, there was no change in election day results, with Mayor Beth Wythe and David Lewis winning re-election and Catriona Lowe winning election to the Homer City Council.
A June 2 trial week date for brothers Anthony Resetarits and Joseph Resetarits could be delayed again, Judge Carl Bauman said Monday at a hearing in Kenai Superior Court. At issue are delays in having iPhone brand cell phones decrypted by Apple Inc.
Some iPhones seized by Alaska State Troopers have security codes that owners haven’t provided, and for privacy reasons Apple has to process the cell phones. At a February hearing, Joseph Resetarits’ attorney, Michael Mobley, said that could take up to six months.
A man accused of robbing the Grog Shop, a liquor store in Homer, waived his indictment and accepted a plea deal on May 22 at the Kenai Courthouse.
John Mumey, 51, who was originally charged with robbery in the first degree, pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree robbery, a felony charge.
