State Trooper Report

May 23

Alaska State Troopers at 1:45 p.m. went to a home near Mile 130 Sterling Highway for a disturbance. They arrested a 61-year-old Ninilchik man for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

May 24

Troopers at 7 p.m. made a traffic stop on a driver near Mile 129 Sterling Highway in Ninilchik. Troopers allege a passenger, a 30-year-old Anchor Point man, possessed marijuana packaged for sale and issued him a summons for fifth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

A caller at 11:18 a.m. reported a Redline BMX bicycle stolen from a Svedlund Drive address.

A man at 11:44 a.m. reported the theft of several fish totes over the winter from a Lakeshore Drive address.

An off-duty trooper at 1 p.m. reported a driver crossing the center and side lines and swerving at various speeds near Mile 165 Sterling Highway. Police contacted the suspect driver and determined the driver was elderly but not impaired.

Cynthia Pickel, 54, pleaded guilty to failure to appear. She was sentenced to time served in jail; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $50 jail surcharge.

May 19

A 39-year-old Soldotna man was arrested by the South Peninsula Bureau of Highway Patrol for driving under the influence and misconduct involving weapons in the fourth degree. The charges followed a traffic stop for a moving violation near mile 89.5 of the Sterling Highway at 9:12 p.m. The vehicle was released to a responsible party. The weapons charge was for having a firearm in the vehicle while impaired.

A man at 2:37 p.m. reported items stolen from a boat on Ocean Drive.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited a 56-year-old Soldotna man for fishing with more than one line in Tutka Bay.
Wildlife Troopers cited a 38-year-old Anchorage man for fishing with more than one line in China Poot Bay. The man also was issued a summons for sixth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, marijuana.

Wildlife Troopers cited a 53-year-old Homer man for fishing with more than one line in marine waters near the Anchor River.

Sigmund L. Grant Jr., 54, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal trespass for an April 13 charge. He was sentenced to 20 days in jail with 15 days suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $100 jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered not to go to Safeway; and was placed on probation for one year.
