HEA energy fair set for Saturday

Homer Electric Association is offering its members an opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in energy-saving appliances, home improvements and alternative energy.

HEA will host its fourth annual Energy and Conservation Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at West Homer Elementary School. A similar event was held Nov. 3 in Kenai.

The fair will feature local vendors displaying a variety of energy conservation related products including appliances, recycling tips, construction materials, heating sources, lighting options and alternative energy information.

In addition to the vendor booths, the fair will include a series of workshops in the school libraries. Workshop presenters will include representatives from HiSpeed Gear, Ocean Renewable Power Company, Wisdom and Associates, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Alaska Infrared LLC, and T and T Toyo Services.

A new addition to the fair this year is “Louie the Lightning Bug’s Conservation Voyage.” The interactive event for children will feature games and activities with a focus on recycling and energy conservation.

The fairs, which are family oriented, also will feature door prizes, popcorn, hot dogs, refreshments and the announcement of the winners of an energy conservation student contest sponsored by HEA.
