Three business seminars offered in Homer in April

The Alaska Small Business Development Center will offer three seminars in Homer in April:

• A “Profit Mastery” seminar will be offered from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. April 3 and April 4 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 5 at the Homer Chamber of Commerce.

The seminar, presented by Bryan Zak, southwest regional director of the Alaska Small Business Development Center, is described “as your best opportunity for knowledge-driven financial management education.”

“This 20-hour hands-on course will help you set goals for the future of your business, control spending and pricing and leave with a process to assess the performance of your business and a strategy to implement change. In addition to the program content, you will master the material through quizzes, lively discussion, guided practice and real-life application to your own business. Creating value and building wealth will empower you to make better business decisions and keep more of your hard-earned money,” according to a press release.

Normally $395, the federal jobs bill allows the center to offer the seminar at a special rate of $200. To qualify for that rate, participants must register and payment must be received by 5 p.m. April 1.

• A “How to Write a Business Plan” seminar will be from 1-5 p.m. April 10. Zak will show participants methods for establishing financial projections, as well as creating and evaluating financial ratios that help measure success and are an effective tool to obtain financing. The fee is $50. The online registration deadline is April 2.

• A free “Starting A Business” seminar will be from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 29 at the Homer Chamber of Commerce.

Zak will answer basic questions and offer resources to give participants tools to start their own business on the Kenai Peninsula. Zak will prepare participants for a productive relationship with the center and its partner programs and explain the value of the center’s free counseling services.

Deadline to register is April 22.
