Chamber holds After Hours event in luxury event hotel

Locals last Thursday got an inside view of the big mansion on Kachemak Drive near Northern Enterprises Boat Yard when the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center held its monthly After Hours Event there. Second Star gets its name from the line in J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan” describing how to find Neverland: “Second star to the right, straight on until morning.”  The home includes a Neverland children’s suite complete with pirate ship.

In May 2010, owners Gene and Andrea Anaya of Salem, Utah, started remodeling and adding on to the timber frame home built in the 1980s by contractor Larry Smith. They initially intended it to be a family vacation home, but now run it as a venue for special events and dream vacations. Rob and Kristen Lamb of Woodland Hills, Utah, were the major designers. The project stopped in September 2012 after Rob Lamb was killed in a plane crash. Kristen Lamb took over the project and did the interior design. Beachy Construction, conveniently located across the street, was the general contractor. Sheldon Beachy was the project supervisor. His wife, Kathy Beachy, is now the local event coordinator for the site.

The Anayas were high school sweethearts in Chugiak and have family in Alaska. Her parents, the Loflins, have a Peterson Bay oyster farm. Second Star is part of Alaska Luxury Adventures, which includes houses in Halibut Cove and Anchorage. Andrea Anaya has a background in medical transcription and developed a business, Career Step, and wrote online medical transcription courses. After selling the company, she wrote online flight instruction courses and is now marketing gourmet chocolate making kits.
