A 9-year-old boy who nearly drowned at Bishop’s Beach last Thursday is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Providence Hospital recovering from his injuries. 

According to Homer Police, at about 3:45 p.m. Katie Brock, the mother of the boy, Anthony Brock, 9, reported him missing at Bishop’s Beach. Homer Police responded and within a few minutes found him floating face down in the outflow of Beluga Slough where it enters Kachemak Bay.

Officer Stacy Luck jumped in and had to swim across the fast current to get the boy, said Homer Police Chief Mark Robl. Brock also went in the water. Luck pulled the boy out and started cardio-pulmonary resuscitation until emergency medical technicians with the Homer Volunteer Fire Department responded. 

The boy was revived at South Peninsula Hospital and taken by medevac to an Anchorage hospital.

An account has been set up at Alaska USA to help the family with expenses while they take time off from work to be with the boy. The account number is 1759461.

Brock said she and her husband, Keith, wanted to sincerely thank everyone who has helped with prayers, time and assistance to the family. 

“We’re going through a storm, but even storms relent and then comes forth light. Had it not been for Christ and the people who blessed us through this journey, we would be lost. God bless,” she said.
