Homer supports its youth

We would like to thank the community of Homer for supporting the local youth. As you may have noticed, there have been colorful and creative Live Action Role Playing,  also known at LARP, events taking place.  This LARP group is open to all community members, but a large number are middle or high school students. It’s an activity that encourages outdoor play and everything from sewing and writing, up to sword and shield crafting. We have rules and support from Amtgard, an international nonprofit organization.  We also recently received a generous grant from the AK chapter of the Awesome Foundation.

The important part is how amazing Homer has been.  Friends of the Homer Public Library encourage the program with usage of the library conference room every Friday, regularly attended by 12-20 people. The Community Christian Church allows us to rent their gym on Saturdays.  Local businesses like Eayrs have taken time to patiently get foam padding measured out for kids. Two Sisters has donated bread for feasting.  And, most generously, the Bidarka Inn allowed us to use their conference room downstairs in January, with full trimmings, to hold a banquet and give out awards to LARPers who had worked hard to deserve them. As you well know, getting an inside location in the winter in Homer can be a challenge. Holding kid-friendly events that are youth driven are even trickier. Hats off to Homer, for standing by your kids and their creativity! If you stop by any of those businesses or organizations, please thank and support them.
