In late April, Cook Inletkeeper hosted our 11th Annual Electronics Recycling Day. Our numbers are in, and it was a record-breaking year. 

We collected 19,322 pounds in Homer, and 5,926 from Seldovia for a total of 25,248 pounds of e-waste recycled this year. Since 2006, we have kept 202,038 pounds of electronic waste out of the Homer Landfill. Funded in part by the Homer Foundation, and supported by the Kenai Peninsula Borough Solid Waste Department, Homer’s E-Cycling Day was a huge success with deep community support. 

Thanks again to the Homer Foundation, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Total Reclaim, SBS, Weaver Brothers, TOTE, Kar-A-Van, Jay Brant, HEA, the Homer Bookstore, the Homer Veterinary Clinic, Loopy Lupine, KBBI, K-WAVE, Kachemak Advocates of Recycling, and food from Safeway, Save-U-More, Two Sisters, Cosmic Kitchen, and Fat Olives. A huge thanks to our volunteers: Kate, Vivian, Clyde, Nancy, Loretta, Carol, Laurie, Lance, Tadhg, Lani, Chaz, Jason, Willow, Kent, James and Kyle.

Electronics are clearly not going away as a huge part of our waste stream. Please remember to set aside your old TVs, phones, computers and other gadgets and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
