Riptide leads standings; city tourney starts this weekend

The Best Western Riptide will head into the Community Schools City League Basketball Tournament with the best record, sitting at 14-2 after defeating the K-12 Teachers 69-43 on Monday. Mark Putney scored 20 points for the teachers while Nick Finley dropped 23 for the victors. The Home Run Oil Titans snuck out a 53-49 point win over the Alaska Bible Institute. Erik Rozeboom scored more than half of his team's points, ending up with 24 on the night. Colton Tutt put up 12 points for the Titans. In the last game of the night, the Bulletproof Nets beat the Gregoire Construction Smooth Operators 63-41. Heath Johnson led the Operators with 7 points as Net's Josh Gilbert scored a team high 13. The City League Tournament begins at the Homer High School on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with ABI taking on the Smooth Ops. The tournament will move to Homer Middle School on Sunday, concluding on Monday with the championship game at 7 p.m.
