Huskies bring home the silver

The smiling Homer Middle School Huskies’ 20-member girls soccer team has reason to smile. The girls fast footwork earned them the second-place trophy at the middle school Regions Soccer Tournament played in Kenai Sept. 28. 

The team beat the Soldotna Maroon team 2-1 in the first game.

Advancing to the championship, they lost to Kenai, 2-1, taking second place.

“Goals were scored by Laci King and Lauren Cardwell, with great defense by Ali McCarron in goal and Brenna McCarron and Alissa Cole in the back,” said HMS Principal Kari Dendurent. 

The HMS boys team played Soldotna’s Silver team, losing 4-3 in an overtime
wshoot-out.

However, in the battle for third place, the boys beat the Soldotna Maroon team 9-2. 

Husky sports continue at the middle school, with intramural basketball action beginning Oct. 7.
