Mite D Round-Up rounds out hockey season for youngsters

A spring sun was snow melting in the Homer

area this weekend. Inside the Kevin Bell Arena, however, the temperatures were a bit cooler, but the action was hot as the Mite D Round-Up brought an end to the hockey season for the six- to eight-year-old athletes on the ice.

Five teams — the Glacier Kings from Homer and four teams from the Kenai area — played Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the Kenai Gold team crowned the weekend champions, according to Michelle Hatton, who, along with Dylan Braund, Shelly Laukitis and Shaun Hatton, coaches the Glacier Kings.

On the team are Seamus Hatton, Lelilani Sallison, Tanner Clyde, CJ Burns, Carter Woodhead, Dale Bryant, Jordan Barrowcliff, Makari Reutov, Marley Malcolm, Finn Braund, Jamen Anderson, Evan Styvar and Zane Barth.

“The Homer team finished with a record of two wins, three losses and a fourth-place finish,” said Coach Shaun Hatton.

It was in the skill competition that the Glacier Kings stood out.

“Seamus Hatton and Jordan Barrowcliff won the passing challenge.  Seamus Hatton also bested 20 other players to take the shootout competition,” said Shaun Hatton.
