Neil Alan Sawyer

 


Anchor Point resident Mr. Neil Alan Sawyer, 51, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. 

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at The Glacier View Baptist Church, 960 East End Road in Homer. Pastor Rick Wise and Pastor Milt Michenor will officiate. An out of state celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at The Hillsboro Christian Church in Oregon. 

Mr. Sawyer was born Oct. 30, 1961, in Portland, Ore. He graduated from high school and furthered his education by attending some college classes. In Oregon he worked for Pac West Information Systems in Hillsboro, Ore., and went on to own and operate Polar Graphics Printing and Paper Products in North Plains, Ore. In 1999 Neil moved his family to Anchor Point, settling near Nikolaevsk village. Neil owned and operated ASR Autosports Inc., selling auto parts, recycling and salvage in Anchor Point for many years. 

He grew up and was married at the Christian Church of Hillsboro, Ore., and attended Glacier View Baptist Church in Homer and Great Land Worship Center in Anchor Point. Neil loved friends, family, fishing, being outdoors, NASCAR and country music. He also loved the Denver Broncos, all sports and working in his shop at home.  

His wife Nancy wrote, “How can I begin to list my husband’s qualities? He was the love of my life, my soul mate and very best friend for 30 years. We shared a deep love for Our Lord and grew in our faith together through the years. At this difficult and shocking time and event in our life, I take comfort in knowing my precious Neil is with Jesus and died with victory.” 

His son Blake wrote, “In the 26 years I have been alive, my Dad is the best man I have ever known. I am the man I am today because of him. I can’t wait to see him again in Heaven. Until then, I’ll continue his legacy of strength and kindness.”

Neil was preceded in death by his father in-law, Tony Mann. 

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sawyer of Anchor Point; son, Blake Sawyer and his girlfriend, Dakota Cruze, both of Anchorage; parents, Bill and Gloria Sawyer of Cornelius, Ore.; mother in-law, Lois Mann of Hillsboro, Ore.; sister and brother in-law, Stacey and Gary Peterson of Hauula, Hawaii, and Jan and Randy Burkhardt of Hillsboro, Ore.; nieces, Jen Harding, Kris Burkhardt, Kelsi Burkhardt and Ariel Peterson; nephews, Ben Burkhardt, Ryan Harding, Cole Peterson, Ryan Peterson and Chris Peterson; great niece and nephew, Chevelle Burkhardt and Colton Burkhardt, and his two loving and dedicated cats, Princess and Gunny.
