Corinne Heidemann

Corinne Heidemann , 82, passed away on Oct. 9, 2015, in Eagle River. Funeral services will be held at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Anchorage on Oct. 15, 2015, with a viewing at 10 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Internment will follow at National Cemetery Fort Richardson at 1 p.m. 

Corinne was born on Aug. 8, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wis., to John and Fredosia Rogga. Corinne and her family moved to Alaska in 1969 and primarily lived in Eagle River, but during fishing season she resided in Homer and Kasilof.

Corinne married Emmet Heidemann on Sept. 8, 1956, while he was stationed in Milwaukee.  They had a 10-day romance period before they married that lasted for over 59 years. Emmet served in the military and Corinne raised both their sons Emmet Jr. and Steven most of the time by herself, while he deployed worldwide in the military.

Corinne worked at the State of Alaska Unemployment Office and retired from that job in 1989.  Her main occupation was commercial fishing were she spent 53 years having the adventure of a lifetime. She held every duty on a longline boat to a gillnetter from the lowest to being the captain.  She enjoyed the challenges of the weather and the accomplishment of bringing in the catch at the end of the trip. She loved the sea. 

Corinne was the room mother just about every grade her boys were in and very active in supporting the boys’ athletic events by being involved in raising funds for their teams by selling candy and soda at their games. She would provide transportation for members of the teams by loading them up in her red pickup truck full of boys to go to the games: baseball, football and hockey. She worked at the Eagle River School as a playground attendant and knew all the kids in Eagle River at the time. Corinne was always there to help other people through their problems.  

She was a court-appointed special advocate in the Alaska Court System assisting children. She volunteered many hours of service to the Chugiak Senior Center. 

“She was the sweetest, most caring and generous person you could ever meet. We will greatly miss her warm, kind nature and loving sense of humor and her fast wit. Corinne did several crossword puzzles daily in ink and enjoyed the challenge,” wrote her family.

 Corinne is survived by her husband, Emmet; son Emmet Jr. and his wife Ann and her children Zane and Liza, and son Steven and his wife Renee and her children Kami, Kayleen and Kylee and Steven’s son Joshua. 

“God bless you all for your acts of kindness and expression of sympathy in our great loss. We sincerely appreciate the love and support from family and friends,” wrote the family.
