Longtime Homer resident Mrs. Beverly Jean Griffeth, 80, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. 

Private graveside services will be held at Hickerson Cemetery. A celebration of life will held at a later date. Pallbearers will include Wes Schacht, Tom Butcher, Kenneth Schacht, Fritz Schacht, Jeff Roehl, Ryan Johannes and Justin Johannes. Beverly was born May 8, 1935, in Spring Valley, Minn. She attended high school until the 10th grade. Beverly moved to Alaska in August of 1964, living in Rabbit Creek in South Anchorage from 1964-1982. In 1982 she moved to Fritz Creek. Beverly was a housewife, mother, nanny, and first mate on a fishing charter boat. She retired from being a nanny. Beverly was a community activist in Homer for many years. She loved collecting angels, stuffed animals, knick knacks and unusual rocks. 

The family wrote, “Mom will mostly be remembered for her humor and charitability in spite of her health. She loved Alaska, especially Kachemak Bay. She easily made friends and was great at networking people together. Mom will be missed very much by her family, friends and stores in Homer. She liked entertaining at the holidays and especially the musicians her son Wes would bring over for brunch. “

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Baker; mother, Opal Wiersma; sister, Jackie Schultz; first husband, David Schacht; second husband, Carroll Griffeth; and stepfather, Lloyd Mundell. 

She is survived by her first son, Wes Schacht of Fritz Creek; second son, Kenneth (Carol Libby) Schacht of Anchorage, and third son, Fritz Schacht of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Connie (Jeff) Roehl of Anchorage; granddaughters, Julane Schacht of Phoenix, and Marin Alexander with her three daughters of Lakeport, Calif.; grandsons, Joe Schacht and his three daughters, all of Anchorage, Dylan Schacht of Anchorage, Desmond Schacht of Anchorage, Ian Schacht of Anchorage, Ryan Johannes with his son and daughter, all of Utah, Justin Johannes of Anchorage and Noah Roehl of Anchorage; great-grandson, David Johannes of Utah and great-granddaughter, Analisa Johannes of Wasilla; and sister, Bea Chesney of Oregon.
