Dora Mae Wagner

Dora Mae “Dode” Wagner, 102, of Maryville, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville.

Dode was born Oct. 18, 1913, in Gallatin, Mo., to George Mathew and Lucy Luella Knapp Lee. 

A 1931 graduate of Gallatin, Mo., High School, she also attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, Maryville. She and Robert Woodrow Wagner were married June 9, 1935, in Osceloa, Mo. 

She taught school for 12 years in Daviess and Nodaway Counties; the last was Rockford Country School in 1943. During and following World War II, Dode and Robert owned and operated Wagner Freight Lines. She and Robert then became the proprietors of “The Palms” and later the “Smoke Shop” during the 1960s and ‘70s. 

Dode joined the Maryville First United Methodist Church May 1, 1933, and participated in the quilting club for many years until she could no longer physically participate. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and past member of Soroptimist and Good Neighbors Clubs. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Robert Wagner (Dec. 11, 1980); three brothers, John William, Roscoe Harvey, and Harold Edward Lee; and sister Georgia Luella Wilson.

Surviving Dode are her children, Robert L. (Barbara) Wagner, Kansas City, Mo., and Katherine K. George, Homer; grandchildren Michele L. Skinner (Zach), Kansas City, Mo., Steve R. Wagner, Gardner, Kan., and Kacey L. (Alana) Shupp, Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, with a visitation prior to the funeral service.

Burial was in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.
