The Kenai Peninsula late-season registration goat hunt opens Nov. 1 and runs through Nov. 14. Healthy mountain goat numbers on the Kenai Peninsula and low draw-hunt harvests earlier this fall have led to the late-season registration hunt opportunities in Game Management Units 7 and 15. Permits will be available at 8 a.m. today, Oct. 26 at http://hunt.alaska.gov, or in person at department offices in Anchorage, Palmer, Homer and Soldotna.

The hunts include:

• RG347, Seward West (limited to 16 permits)

• RG359, Bradley Lake (limited to 16 permits)

• RG362, Sadie Cove (limited to 9 permits)

• RG364, Seldovia (limited to 24 permits, residents only)

According to a release from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, late-season harvest quotas are based on goat units left over from the draw-hunt season. Goat units are calculated using one unit for billies and two units for nannies. Hunters are reminded that the preferable harvest in these units is one billy. Hunters who harvest a nanny will be ineligible to hunt goats on the Kenai for five years. The taking of nannies accompanied by a kid is prohibited. Seasons may be closed by emergency order at any time during the season when quotas are reached.
