Independence Day, Homer style

Another Independence Day parade is on the books for Homer.

With dozens of floats celebrating everything from political campaigns to the local library, Pioneer Avenue was lit up with color and fun for the better part of two hours at 6 p.m. that Wednesday, July 4.

This year’s theme was “Celebrating Homer’s Volunteers,” with longtime volunteers Ruby and David Nofziger serving as this year’s grand marshals.

Parade participants are judged according to several different categories. This year’s winners are:

Best of show – Homer Senior Citizen Center

Best antique car – The Twins

Best of bikes – Hava Bowersox

Best of animals – Cook Inletkeeper

Best children’s group – Moore Music

Best use of theme – Homer Volunteer Fire Department
