Kevin Bell Arena opens Sept. 21

Homer’s community ice rink, the Kevin Bell Ice Arena on the Homer Spit, opens for its 10th season on Sept. 21 with hockey, broomball, curling and figure skating for every age. For information on how to register for programs and the event calendar, visit www.kevinbellarena.org.

 

Basketball referees needed

Another season of high school basketball will soon be here. The junior high basketball season starts in October. If you have a desire to officiate, call Merlin Cordes at 299-0303 or Russ Radliff at 399-0297 for more information. Junior high officiating is a great way to work into refereeing. A referee meeting is 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Homer High School.

 

Rescue Run set for Saturday

The first Rescue Run starts with a walk and noncompetitive heat at 10 a.m. Saturday and a run and competitive heat at 11 a.m. at the Homer Volunteer Fire Department station. 

The race ends at the Kachemak Emergency Services Station 2.

The 12-kilometer run benefits the volunteer member associations of the Homer Volunteer Fire Department and the Kachemak Emergency Service Area. Fees are $35 for adults and $25 for children ages 15 and younger. For information and registration information visit akrescuerun.org.

Day of race registration will begin at 8:30 am at Homer Volunteer Fire Department.

 

Halibut Hustle slated for Sunday

As part of the Homer Halibut Festival, the Kachemak Bay Running Club will host the first Homer Halibut Hustle, a 5-kilometer fun run. The race begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Land’s End. Online registration is at www.kachemakbayrunningclub.org. Day of race registration starts at 8:30 a.m. Fee is $5 for those 10 and younger and $15 for those 11 and older.
