‘The Drunkard’

auditions this weekend

Auditions for The Drunkard, a melodramatic morality musical to be performed the second and third weekends in September, will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Mariner Theatre. There are roles for all ages and the cast will ultimately be about 25 people. If you have questions, or conflicts with the audition times please contact Laura Norton at 299-2453.

 

Jones reads from new novel at library today

Sitka writer Brendan Jones reads from his new novel, “The Alaskan Laundry,” at 6 p.m. today at the Homer Public Library. Jones is a Wallace Stegner fellow at Stanford University, and has a wide list of publications including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, and more. Originally from Philadelphia, he now makes his life in Southeast Alaska. 

 

Local artist gets Rasmuson grant

Fritz Creek paper artist Desiree Hagen has received a $7,000 project grant from the Rasmuson Foundation. Hagen will lead the “Invasive and Native Papermaking Project” to harvest, forage and process plant fibers and make them into paper and natural dyes. Her goal is to eradicate these species and create awareness of their effects on the ecosystem.
