Town Crier

The Christian Science Society holds a Thanksgiving service at 10 a.m. Nov. 24 at its reading room, 3774 Bartlett Street. The service includes hymns, prayer and readings from the King James Bible and passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Time will be set aside for sharing testimonies and expressions of gratitude.

The Cosmic Chaos Benefit at 9 p.m. Friday at The Alibi supports Dax Radtke’s Cancer Fight Fund. Featured entertainment is by Tails & Tassels Burlesque, DJ Construct and Fractal Theory, and the Krazy Karaoke Singers. Donations will be taken at the door.

The Homer Garden Club holds its monthly meeting from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Best Western Bidarka Inn on the Sterling Highway in Homer. The guest speaker is Dr. John Morton of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service discussing climate change impacts to the Kenai Peninsula.

The Kachemak Bay Birders meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. Following the meeting, Heather Renner, supervisory wildlife biologist with the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, presents “Murre Die-off Update” with information on the large common murre die-off last winter and the breeding failures that followed it.

The Kachemak Ski Club holds its annual meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at Fat Olives Restaurant. Everyone is welcome.

The Anchor Point Fire & Emergency Service Area Board seeks applications from those who are interested in appointment to the service area board. Any qualified voter who has resided within the service area for 180 days may apply for appointment to Seat C. Anchor Point Senior Citizens

The Anchor Point Senior Center on Milo Fritz Road is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Friday. The center serves Thursday night dinners starting at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Bingo is at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. on Friday nights. The Helping Hands Thrift Store is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Exercise sessions are at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Friendship Center

Friendship Center Adult Day Services is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday with extended hours for special situations. Programs are offered daily, including story time, crafts and musical performances. Call 235-4556.

Homer Senior Citizens

Homer Senior Citizens lunch is open to seniors and guests and is served noon-1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The lunch menu for this week is: Wednesday, sweet and sour pork; Thursday, closed for Thanksgiving; Friday, almondine tilapia; Monday, chicken cordon bleu; Tuesday, barbecue beef brisket; Wednesday, chicken parmesan.

Strong Women classes are 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Homer Senior Center. The cost is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers per class.

Zumba Gold classes with Maria are 11 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Homer Senior Center. The cost per class is $4 for members, $6 for nonmembers.

Pratt Museum

The museum gallery winter hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Business offices are open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

“Inspired by Diaries” features art works by different artists inspired by diaries to create art. It is on display through Dec. 30.
