Carnival Homer-Style

  • The Kachemak Bay Campus Student Association marches as a humpback whale in the Homer Winter Carnival parade on Saturday. They won in the category of Animals, Birds and Sea Creatures.

Sunshine, fresh snow and single-digit temperatures made last Saturday’s Homer Winter Carnival festive but chilly. Several parade entries responded to the theme “Jazz Up Winter,” including dancers with Pier One Theatre promoting its next big musical, “Chicago.”

Here are the 2017 Winter Carnival Parade Winners. Prizes were awarded in Homer Bucks.

• Best Antique Car, Truck or Machinery: Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions, $50

• Best of Bikes &Trikes: Snomads, $50

• Best Performing Arts: Pier One Theatre, $50

•Animals, Birds, Sea Creatures: Kachemak Bay Campus Student Association, $50

• Best Use of Theme: Homer Senior Citizens, $75

• Best of Show: Krewe of Gambrinus Band, $75

• Best Children’s Group: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, $75

• Judge’s Sentimental Favorite: Homer Senior Citizens, $75
