Remembering cost of freedom on Memorial Day

John Cox, post commander of VFW Post 10221 in Anchor Point, address the crowd during a Memorial Day service at the Anchor Point cemetery. At the close of the event, Cox said in prepared remarks: “There is a saying that is so true today that it brings pain to my heart that will never change. That is that during peace sons and daughters will bury their mothers and fathers; during times of war fathers and mothers will bury their sons and daughters. As we depart today’s events we will undoubtedly continue to bear the burden of loss that comes with losing a family member, friend, one of our brothers or sisters in arms. But we take solace in knowing their lives were not lost in vain and we rameain fore ever grateful for having gifted us the greatest gift on earth … freedom.”
