Seldovia solstice fest back for 17th year
Seldovia once again offers a weekend of music and art around the summer solstice. Sponsored by the Seldovia Arts Council, the 17th annual Summer Solstice Music Festival runs June 22-25 at Homer’s village neighbor on the south shore of Kachemak Bay.
With the logo of “You Otter Be Here,” the town invites people to enjoy acts DePue & DeHoyos, Denali Cooks, the Hannah Yoter Band, Elena Lukina, the Umpqua Singers, Patrice Webb, WesWestlake and Judi Works, Betsy Scott and Ryan Hiller.
The weekend also includes “Higgy’s En Plein Air,” a chance for artists to depict Seldovia in their preferred medium.
The weekend begins at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, when performers board the Seldovia Ferry on the Kachemak Voyager for an hour ride to Seldovia. An open mic starts at 8 p.m. at Susan B. English School.
On Friday, performers will busk throughout the day. Concerts start at 6:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the school. Workshops are held 1-4 p.m. Saturday. The weekend closes with an auction of en plein air works from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the harbor pavilion.
Festival passes are $49 for adults, $16 for teenagers and children under 12 free. Single-night performances are $25 adults and $8 teens.
