Alaska pioneer William G. Bacus, 91, died at Providence Kodiak Hospital on Thursday, May 1, 2008, following a courageous battle with pneumonia. He had been residing at the Kodiak Care Center for the past year.

Homer resident Winifred "Winnie" Fern Hatfield, 92, passed away April 16, 2008, in her home at Friendship Terrace with her family by her side.

Homer resident and Alaska pioneer, Ann Carolyn (Condra) Gillas, 78, went to her eternal rest on April 6, 2008, in Galveston, Texas. She was born in Vancouver, Wash., on Feb. 19, 1930, to James M. Condra and Veronica Fay Brophy.

Longtime Anchor Point resident Mr. Seth Allen Harris, 39, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at his home near Anchor Point.

Melva Jean Hillas
Melva Jean Hillas, age 76, passed away Saturday evening, April 5, 2008, at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, Calif., from lung disease.

Homer resident, Mr. Robert E. Harford, a.k.a. "Wasilla Gorilla," 70, died March 8, 2008, at South Peninsula Hospital with his family by his side.

Richard D. Synhorst
Richard Dale Synhorst, 57, loving husband, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Palm Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, following a 14-month courageous battle with leukemia. A memorial service was at 4 p.m. Monday, March 31, at the Community Christian Church.

Lorna Mae Bailey
Former Homer resident Lorna Mae Bailey, 89, died March 7, 2008, at the Mary Conrad Center in Anchorage. An informal memorial service was at 2 p.m., March 27, 2008, at the Mary Conrad Center chapel. Chaplain Keith Olsen officiated.

James William Stewart
Longtime Homer resident, Mr. James William Stewart, 90, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. Per Mr. Stewart's request no services will be held. A private family gathering will be held where his ashes will be scattered.

Arnold Robert Rodgers Sr.
Arnold Robert Rodgers Sr., 90, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 27, 2008, after a long battle with heart disease in Petaluma, Calif. Rodgers was a World War II veteran of the Aleutian campaign. He married a long-time Homer resident, the former Ursula Rearden, in 1966, and was a frequent visitor to Homer to see his step-children and their children.

Carol Ann Fox
Longtime Alaskan and Kenai resident Carol Ann (Schuttke) Fox, 66, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Heritage Place in Soldotna. Memorial services are at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Chaplain Craig Fanning will officiate at the service. A celebration of her life will follow the service at the Kenai Family Moose Center, 12516 Kenai Spur Hwy. Her cremated remains will be scattered over Cook Inlet at a later date.
