John L. Luzadder

John L. Luzadder, 63, died Feb. 9, 2014, with his wife Suzi at his side at their home in Homer. 

“He left this earth for more far reaching endeavors, and new stages, new gigs,” his wife said.

A celebration of life and memorial service was held  Feb. 23, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge.

John Lee Luzadder was born Aug. 14, 1950, in Fairmont, W.V., to Mary Martha Luzadder and Raymond Leo Luzadder.

Ronald W. Drathman

Ronald William Drathman, a longtime Homer resident, died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, of natural causes at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, you make a charitable donation to Little League of Homer or another project close to your heart.

Emory Franklin “Frank” Arndt

Kasilof resident Emory Franklin “Frank” Arndt, Jr., 56, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at his home.

Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds in Ninilchik. Pastor Ron Lambert will officiate. Additional services will be held in Montrose, Colo., at a later date.

Frank was born Feb. 16, 1957, in Alamosa, Colo. He graduated from Montrose High School Class of 1975. He served in the U.S. Army from 1975-80. 

Anne Morgan

Former Homer resident Anne Morgan died Dec. 21, 2013, in Atlanta, Ga., by accident, just a few days before she was to meet her family at Callaway Gardens to exchange Christmas gifts and have a lovely time. Her funeral service was held on Christmas Eve, 2013, at Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home on Timberlane Road, Tallahassee. She was 21 years and 5 months old.

Leonard ‘Earl’ Miller

Homer resident, Mr. Leonard “Earl” Miller, 86, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at South Peninsula Hospital at Long Term Care in Homer with his daughter Patti and granddaughter Sandra at his side.

Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care, 4300 Bartlett Street in Homer.

John Luzadder

John Luzadder, 63, died Feb. 9, 2014, at home. A celebration of life and memorial service is at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge, 215. W. Jenny Way. Please bring musical instruments for a jam session. A full obituary will follow.

Gregory Christen

Gregory Christen, 64, died in the early morning of Jan. 25, 2014, at his stepson’s home in Anchorage. Survived by his wife, Sandy Christen; daughter Janna Christen; and stepsons Will and Rory Stark, Greg passed away peacefully in his sleep due to complications with heart failure after a lengthy battle with cancer. In his last few days Greg was surrounded by his wife and children who watched over him and made him as comfortable as possible. 

Peter E. Larson

Peter Ellsworth Larson, 73, of Homer, Alaska died surrounded by his family on Jan. 20, 2014. Born to Pearl and Arnold Larson in Sioux Falls, S.D., Feb. 10, 1940, he grew up and graduated from high school in Mandan, N.D., in 1958. Peter attended college and received a bachelor of science in education from Dickinson State University in 1963 and taught mathematics one year in Mandan High School. Subsequently he served six years in the U.S. Air Force as navigator/electronic warfare officer on the B-52 Stratofortress.

Jo A. Felch

Jo A. Felch, 79, died Jan. 17, 2014, at South Peninsula Hospital. Jo was born in Helena, Mont., on March 5, 1934.

She attended school first in Helena, Mont., and finished in Oakland, Calif.,where she graduated from Freemont High School in 1952.

Jo started her family in Oakland, and when she relocated to Tri-Cities, Wash., she brought three children with her. While in Tri-Cities she gave birth to two more children.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Mohn

Anchor Point resident, Mr. Charles “Chuck” Mohn, 62, died after a long term illness on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at his home in Anchor Point with his wife by his side.

Memorial services to honor Chuck will be held at a later date.

He was born Oct. 12, 1951, in Onawa, Iowa. He came to Alaska with his parents Harold and Joan Mohn in 1957.

He retired from the state of Alaska, moved to Oregon and then back to Alaska out to Adak, where he and Kathy ran several businesses and he was the mayor of Adak for a short time. 

Ann Marie Anderson

Ann Marie Anderson, 67, died Jan. 19, 2014, at Alaska Native Medical Center, Anchorage, following a long illness.

Services were held at noon Jan. 26, 2014, at the Seldovia Bible Church with Pastor Jonathan Hoard officiating. A potluck followed the service.

Ann Marie Anderson, 67, died Jan. 19, 2014, at Alaska Native Medical Center, Anchorage, following a long illness.

Services were held at noon Jan. 26, 2014, at the Seldovia Bible Church with Pastor Jonathan Hoard officiating. A potluck followed the service.

Gavin Arthur Priest

Former Homer resident Gavin Arthur Priest, 51, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, in Valdez after a long battle with cancer. His final hours were spent surrounded by his family and friends who played and sang his favorite worship songs. 

Betty C. Oliver

Longtime Alaska and Ninilchik resident Betty Colleen Oliver, 82, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Hickerson Memorial Cemetery on Diamond Ridge Road near Homer. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Ninilchik River Life Church.

Dan E. Clyburn

Dan E. Clyburn, 76, died Jan. 13, 2014, in Homer. A celebration of life is 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Homer.

Frank J. Libal

Longtime Homer resident, Frank Joseph Libal, 70, died peacefully on Jan. 3, 2014, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born to the late Joseph and Vernette Libal of Two Harbors, Minn., on Jan. 15, 1943. He attended Two Harbors area schools, including Two Harbors High School, where he graduated in 1961. 

Charles D. Smith

Former Homer resident Charles “Chuck” David Smith, 50, died Dec. 5, 2013, in the Lower 48 states. “He passed away, leaving us too soon, and into our Heavenly Father’s arms,” his family said. He was born July 30, 1963.

A local celebration of life and potluck is at 4 p.m. Jan. 25, 2014, at Kharacters. Join his friends in sharing memories and stories. A celebration of life also will be held in Sun City, Ariz.

Colleen Madonna Flood

Colleen Madonna Flood, 50, died Jan. 13, 2014, peacefully in her sleep. She was surrounded by her family and people that loved her dearly. 

Colleen grew up in Hamburg N.Y., but lived most of her adult life in Soldotna, Kenai and Homer. She was a published writer, and had written many books. She had a degree in education, but her greatest accomplishment was her son, whom she loved with all her heart. 

Steven Wolfe

Steven Wolfe, 64, died Jan. 5, 2014, in Homer of Guillain-Barre’s syndrome. Services were held Jan. 9, 2014, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Vincent Hapeman

Ninilchik resident Mr. Vincent Hapeman, 69, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at his home in Ninilchik. 

No services will be held. 

Vincent was born Jan. 30, 1944, to Roy R. and Mary M. Monin Hapeman in Lancaster, N.Y.
