Former Homer resident Beulah Jane “BJ” (Falter) Johnson, 80, died Oct. 22, 2013, at Ray Hickey Hospice in Vancouver, Wash.
She was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Fordville, N.D., to Percy Kenneth Falter and Irene Elizabeth Walsh. She was the oldest of four children.
Former Homer resident Lloyd Abeldgaard, 73, died on Oct. 9, 2013, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born Sept. 24, 1940, in McIntosh, Minn.
“Lloyd was known for his kind heart, his ability to fix just about anything, his love for his family and his talent at playing the guitar. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him,” his family said.
Homer resident Danielle (Danièle Vuilleumier) Nagle, 52, died on Oct. 12, 2013, in Homer after a long battle with cancer.
Private services were held on Monday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
Danielle was born July 9, 1961, and raised in Beaumont Bienne, Bern, Switzerland. She lived in a variety of places in Europe and the United States, but eventually settled in Homer to raise a family.
Nikki Geragotelis, 30, died unexpectedly on Oct. 10, 2013, at her home in Homer.
Nikki was born at South Peninsula Hospital on May 19, 1983, to Bill and Dorothy Fry.
“She was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend,” her family said.
A service is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the Bear Creek Bottling Plant, 60473 Bear Creek Drive, just up the road from the Bear Creek Winery. All who knew and loved Nikki are welcome.
Ninilchik Alaskan Pioneer, Mr. Doug Blossom, 74, died from an aneurism on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in Anchorage with his family by his side.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Carol Bock Hall inside the Ninilchik Fairgrounds. Pastor Ray Leonard will officiate. Everyone is invited. Pallbearers will include his grandsons, Brian, Brad, Boomer, David, Grant and Cody Blossom and Billy and Jared Duncan.
Former Ninilchik resident and charter captain Harvey Haynes, 78, died Oct. 4, 2013, from complications from spinal cancer surgery. His family said he died at home, where he wanted to be.
“Though the last month was rough, he felt comfort being surrounded by those he loved,” his family said.
A celebration of life is 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., Wasilla.
Harvey Haynes was born Feb. 27, 1935, in Alabama to Jack and Flossie Haynes.
George Raymond Evarts, known as “Papa Ray” to his family and friends, died Sept. 24, 2013, in Medford, Ore., where he lived the past two years. His family said he passed away peacefully.
Evarts was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Salmon, Idaho. He moved to Oregon, found and married his life-long mate of 64 years, Patricia Lorraine Randolph.
Janet Dolores Hines Castle, 56, of Wasilla, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at home. A celebration of life was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the Wasilla Assembly of God, 125 W. Riley off Knik Goose Bay Road. Dr. Lattis Campbell officiated.
A service also will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the Oak Lake Baptist Church in Sugarland, Texas.

Longtime Kenai resident Leda Evanovna Shadura Schmidt Taradonova, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. She was 93.
A panikhida service was at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. Funeral services will be held in Seattle, Wash. and she will be buried at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery in Seattle.

Longtime Homer resident Robert (Bob) Moss died Sept. 17, 2013, in Homer. He was 90.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Bob and his wife, Carol, who preceded him in death, on Sunday, Sept. 29 in the basement of the Bidarka Inn from 4-6 p.m. The family invites you all to come, peel a shrimp, have a bite and share a memory.

Albert Koepfli died in his sleep on May 4, 2013, in Helena, Mont.
Al was born in Seattle, Wash., (King County) in the Swedish Hospital on Oct. 8, 1930. He lived in Bellingham, Wash., raising horses. In 1973, Al moved to Homer and his first place of residence was at the historical Tandoo cabin. He later moved and lived in Larry Slavins’ two-story log cabin with Hobo Jim and Annie Vogel.
Frank Andrew Hatfield, 59, died suddenly Sept. 4, 2013. Born Aug. 5, 1954, Frank grew up in Homer. After working on the Alaska Pipeline, he worked for Homer Electric Association as his father, Fred, and brother, John, had done. He moved to Washington state in 1984. It was there he met the love of his life, Sandy. Their son, Bruce, came along shortly after that and completed their family. After moving to North Carolina, Frank began a career making use of his loving and caring spirit, working for Life Span. His clients became his second family.
Homer resident Connie Nadine Smith, 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at her home.
Memorial services will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Many Rivers, about a half mile down East End Road on the left hand side. Her ashes will be spread in Eldred Passage at the mouth of Sadie Cove.
Raphael “Ataaka-Raphadeelio” Terry Dumont died Aug. 18, 2013. He was born Jan. 27, 2013, to his parents, Coty and Ephimia Dumont. Funeral Services were held on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, by Reverand Father Michael Trefon at St. Herman Orthodox Church in Port Graham.
“Raphael was very smart: he learned fast and enjoyed it,” his family said. “He was loving: he loved hugs and kisses. He was silly: he loved to laugh and play and throw his toys far. He enjoyed having visitors, although he was Momma’s boy.
Anthony Damek McAllistar Guerra, 9, went to be with the Lord at 9 a.m. Aug. 2, 2013, after drowning at Bishop’s Beach on July 25. A celebration of his life is at 4 p.m. Sept. 14, 2013, at Bishop’s Beach, the beach he loved so much.

Thomas Temple passed away at Alaska Regional Hospital on June 6, 2013, from complications related to his heart transplant. Juanita Cox, 92, born on Aug. 29, 1920, “woke up in the arms of the Lord on the morning of Aug. 13, 2013,” her family said. She passed away peacefully at home in the loving care of her daughter, Donna “Teece” and son-in-law Terry Scovell.
A celebration of life is planned for Sept. 7, 2013, at the Glacierview Baptist Church at a time to be announced.
Lifelong Alaska Native and Port Graham resident Olga M. Fomin, 58, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in Port Graham.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at St. Herman of Alaska Russian Orthodox Church in Port Graham. Pallbearers were Micky Anahonak, Peter Anahonak Jr., Denis Anahonak, Quentin McMullen, Dale Malchoff and Walter Meganack, Jr.
Olga was born Aug. 31, 1954, in Seldovia. She graduated from high school and had also received her associate’s degree.
