Anchor Point resident Mr. Howard Orvis Houglum, 64, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Richard Lewis Sprague, 96, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. He had suffered from, and many times rallied through, heart problems. He succumbed to congestive heart failure.

Longtime Homer area resident Virginia L. Cundiff, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital.
A celebration of her life and potluck is at noon Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Homer Elks Lodge. Her cremated remains will be placed near Augustine Volcano so she can be seen from her dining room window on a clear day.
Virginia was born March 1, 1925. She was raised in Mooresville, Mo., near Chillicothe. Her father was a brick mason and contractor.
Frances Downes, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at her son’s home in Copper Center, Alaska.
Memorial services were held April 7, 2013, at Mount Drum Lutheran Church in Copper Center. Pastor Todd Roeske officiated. Additional services will be held in New Mexico at a later date. Her ashes will be scattered with her husband’s ashes in Willard, N.M., where they had met.
Jeanne Ashment See, 60, passed away Feb. 26, 2013, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, Wash. A memorial service is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Grace Bible Church in the Kachemak Community Center, East End Road and Bear Creek Drive.
Janet Meehan, 89, died on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. Her ashes will be spread on the family homestead in Anchor Point this summer.
Janet Meehan was born Nov. 24, 1923, in White Plains, N.Y. She was 12 when she decided that she wanted to live in Alaska. Years later she persuaded her husband, Bill Rabich, to trade his plans of sunshine and sailboats for her Alaska adventure. In 1950, they packed their baby daughter into a World War II Jeep and drove over the Alaska Highway into Alaska, settling in Anchor Point.
David Elmer Schei, a longtime resident of Alaska, died March 11, 2013. He was 59 years old. David currently resided in Fairbanks and had previously spent many years in Homer.
He was born April 10, 1953, to Helen (Ludvigson) and Elmer Schei. He is survived by his son, Justin Schei, of Enumclaw, Wash.; siblings, Judy Schei Barrows, of Marysville, Wash., Daniel Schei of Rockport, Wash., and John Schei of Yakima, Wash.
George Kenneth Seaton, father of Paul Seaton, passed on peacefully at home on March 14, 2013, with family by his side. Born Feb. 7, 1909, Ken had recently celebrated his 104th birthday with a family reunion at his home in California. He was a remarkable man, loved and admired by many — a role model for family and friends alike.

Homer resident Thelma M. "Teena" Schnepel, 87, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at Hickerson Memorial Cemetery on Diamond Ridge Road.
Thelma was born Jan. 13, 1926, in New York City and was a high school graduate. She moved to Homer in 2005 and was a housewife.
Blossom Bettie (Luhrsen) Nelson, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Anchorage on March 4, 2013. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Sept. 24, 1918, to Gustav and Minnie Luhrsen. On April 8, 1939, she married George Nelson and from there the five Nelson girls were born.
Longtime Homer resident Mrs. Marjorie Joan Mangimelli, 90, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at South Peninsula Long Term Care.
Homer and Anchorage resident Dorothy "Dori" Marie Olson, 70, died Jan. 25, 2013, suddenly at her vacation home in Tacna, Ariz. She was cremated by Yuma Mortuary and Crematory and her ashes returned with her husband to Alaska.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. March 16, 2013, at Bayshore Club House, Anchorage, with a potluck to follow.
Jeanne Ashment See, 60, of Homer died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013.
She had resided in Homer for 17 years and was co-owner/operator of The Sport Shed and the charter boat Lucky Lady for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Tabor Ashment, of Homer; her mother, Joy Cundiff of Wenatchee, Wash.; her father, Norman See, of Sandpoint, Idaho; and her brother, Michael See of Bridgeport, Wash.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Seldovia resident Marlin Thomas "Mike" Williamson, 86, died Feb. 11, 2013, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He is survived by his son Zon "Tsuri," grandchildren Rochel, Miriam, Sara, Betsalel and Yosef; and great-grandchildren Chaya, Chanie, Shayna, Yossi, Dovid, Malka, Brocha and Channa.
Carl Frederick "Fred" Bannick Jr., 62, passed away in his home on Nov. 20, 2012, after a lengthy battle with diabetes and a blood disorder. He rarely let his late-in-life disability slow him down and was known for his determination and will to live life on his terms.
Frank H. Gardner Jr., 76, died Feb. 8, 2013, in Uganda. A memorial service is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Glacierview Baptist Church.
He was born Sept. 25, 1936, to Frank and Beatrice Gardner in Virginia. He was married to Adelaide Adella for almost 53 years until her passing in 2010 in Homer.
