Trail Conditions for Kachemak Bay State Park

Updated: September 8, 2010

Trail Conditions Report

Kachemak Bay State Park

Overall Conditions:  Majority of trails are cleared of dead fall, and are very brushy.  If confused of trail direction, look for chainsaw cuts.

Advisory:   Trails in KBSP are rough, with steep grades in places, and in some cases only marked routes.  It is advisable to add 1/3 to your average hiking time.  During low cloud conditions, trails/routes in alpine areas are easy to loose.  Use of GPS and/or map and compass is recommended.

Grewingk Creek Tram is open and new sheaves (pulleys) are installed.  Operation of tram should be easier, however, we still suggest a minimum of two people in party, one assisting by remaining on the platforms to pull on the rope, reversing process when first person across completes trip.  Pull on the lower rope on the platforms to avoid rope coming off the pulleys.  Gloves are recommended.

Please practice LEAVE NO TRACE etiquette.  PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN!

Report any problems, complaints to the Park Ranger @ 235-7024 or 262-5581, thank you.
