* Gabriel Curtis Rein is the first baby of 1993 to be born at South Peninsula Hospital, weighing in at 8 pounds, 2 ounces and 20 inches long.


* The Kenai Peninsula School Board votes 6-1 to allow district health teachers to use the controversial sex-ed book "Changing Bodies, Changing Lives," as reference material in their classrooms.


* Homer police investigate allegations that a 29-year-old Homer man had sexual contact with a 15-year-old boy who was among nine teenagers the subject befriended by offering them beer, tequila and marijuana.
