At its quarterly meeting last month, the Alaska State Council on the Arts awarded a $2,000 grant to the Kachemak Bay Campus for the Kachemak Bay Writers’ Conference. The conference is June 8-12 at Land’s End Resort, with Amy Tan as the keynote speaker. Registration has started, with reduced rates until May 4. Folk musician plays at Down East
Former Bethel resident and now Brooklyn, N.Y. singer-songwriter Paul Basile plays at 9 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Down East Saloon, East End Road. Basile lived in Bethel since 2002 and moved to New York last June to break into the New York City singer-songwriter scene. He tours Alaska from Jan. 5-13, and also plays in Palmer, Anchorage, Talkeetna, Indian and Bethel.
Grammy nominees play at Duggan’s
The Duhks return to Homer next week, playing at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 at Duggan’s Waterfront Pub. The group was nominated for a Grammy award for “Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal” for their song “Heaven’s My Home.” Tickets are $25 for KBBI/KDDL members and $27 for nonmembers and available at KBBI, Duggan’s or the Homer Bookstore.
