The eating of art

The Bunnell Street Gallery's annual Edible Arts Extravaganza again filled tables with an unusual and varied selection of art sculpted from food on New Year's Eve. Entries ranged from zany to delectable with several artists choosing to make political statements with their concoctions. Ken Castner recreated the controversial Ocean Loop Drive seawall, complete with a large blue wave soaring over the edge and titled it "Tsosumi," while Peter Sheppard created a modified American flag with a peace sign instead of stars and red stripes that dripped down the cake canvas titled "America the Beautiful?"

As usual, youth participated in the event with gusto, creating everything from a nutritional advice to "a rare and beautiful coconut bird."
