HEA connects with GRAD

Homer Electric Association announced last month that it will donate $500 toward the Kenai Peninsula School District's Project GRAD program. This donation is in conjunction with Touchstone Energy, the national alliance of member-owned electric co-ops that HEA joined last year, which donated an additional $1,053.

Environmental politics weekend planned

Applications are now being accepted for the fifth annual Civics and Conservation Summit sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation April 4 to 7 in Juneau. High school students interested in environment and politics are encouraged to apply. There is a 15-student maximum. School credit may be available. Applications are due by February 1. ADF&G seeks comments

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Sportfish's plans for restocking Alaska's waters is available for public comment through Jan. 16. The plan calls for seven million fish to be released throughout the next five years. The plan is posted at www.sf.adfg.state.ak/statewide/hatchery/stockingplan.cfm. RCAC seeks information

The Prince William Sound Regional Citizen's Advisory Council is looking for submissions of crude oil spill prevention and response equipment to submit information for an electronic database of best available technology. The database will be available to Alyeska Pipeline Service Company tanker companies and oil spill response teams. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 29. Nominations sought by chamber

The Homer Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the outstanding business of the year and citizen of the year. Nomination forms and drop boxes are available at the chamber, city hall, First National Bank of Alaska, Fritz Creek General Store, Safeway, Spenard Builders Supply, Wells Fargo and Ulmers Drug and Hardware.

A written description of the merits of the nominees must be included in the nomination. A committee will review all nominees, establish a ballot and open voting to the public in January.

Winners will be announced at the chamber's January mixer at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. For more information, call the chamber at 235-7740.

Kucinich supporters meet

Supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich will meet today, and every Thursday, at 5:30 p.m. at Espresso Express. For more information, call Linda at 235-8361.
