The woman, 20, rolled the Jeep when it hit a patch of ice and slid into the inbound lane, said Juneau Police Officer Sara Coyle. The driver lost control of the vehicle, it slipped off the road, flipped over, and slid 30 feet down a hill.
Neither the driver or the female passenger, 31, in the vehicle were wearing seat belts.
The passenger was thrown from the vehicle when the hardtop of the Jeep flew from its frame while the vehicle rolled.
The driver wound up pinned beneath the vehicle.
Police Capt. Tom Porter said two motorists saw the accident, pulled over, and ran to help.
"These two citizens managed to hold the vehicle up to keep it from rolling again, because it would have rolled right over (the driver)," said Porter. "These two very likely saved the woman's life."
The driver sustained only bruises and was released from the hospital that night. The passenger was admitted to the hospital in good condition for observation of head bruising, according to a hospital spokesperson.
