Districtwide

• Jan. 30: District budget meeting, Homer High School, 7 p.m.



 
 
• Scholarship: The Kenai Peninsula Borough School district is sponsoring scholarships for a 2007/2008 full-year tuition waiver from AVTEC, the Alaska Vocational Technical Center, and a 2008/2008 full-year tuition waiver from KPC, Kenai Peninsula College. The two scholarships apply to this year’s 2007 graduating seniors. Applications are available at on the Web at www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/departments.aspx?id=50, or contact your local school counselor for more information. Applications must be postmarked by March 23. • Scholarship: AAA Alaska will again offer the Academics, Athletic and Arts scholarship to graduating Alaska high school seniors. To be eligible, seniors must maintain at least a 2.75 grade point average, actively participate in academics, athletics and the arts, and attend a college or accredited technical school in Alaska, Montana or Wyoming during the 2007-2008 school year. Eligibility requirements and an application can be downloaded from the Web at www.aaa.com.

• Scholarship: The $1,000 Mary and Lucian Cassetta Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by the Anchorage Symphony to a high school senior who displays musical talent, dedication and a desire to continue advanced music studies. The competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 15. For more information, call the Anchorage symphony at (907) 274-8668.

• Scholarship: The Kenai Peninsula Nursing Education Consortium is taking applications for its scholarship program that makes $500-$1,000 scholarships available to nursing students. Applications are available at www.cpgh.org, under Community Programs. First preference is given to applicants from the Kenai/Soldotna area enrolled at a Kenai Peninsula College campus. Deadline for consideration is Jan. 30. Applications should be mailed or delivered to Heritage Place, 232 Rockwell Ave., Soldotna, AK 99669.

• Scholarship: The University of Alaska Foundation offers $500 to $8,000 scholarships for students attending any campus of the University of Alaska in 2007-08. To apply, fill out the UA Foundation statewide application at the Kachemak Bay Campus financial aid office or online at www.alaska.edu/uafound/processPolicy/awards.xml.

• Scholarship: The Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund has announced the call for 2007/2008 scholarship and internship applications for Alaskans pursuing degrees and/or careers in education, government and public service. Deadline to apply is Feb. 16. Applications may be requested by e-mailing cwrecord@alaska.net or writing to Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund, Attn: Tom Begich, Executive Director, P.O. Box 142711, Anchorage, AK 99514-2711.

• World Heritage Student Exchange, a public benefit organization, is looking for local host families for high school boys and girls from France, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, Denmark and Italy. For information, call Julia Mitzel at 800-888-9040.

Chapman School

Homer High School

• Today: Staff meeting, 3:30 p.m.

n Friday: HHS’s Drama, Debate and Forensic’s Team will host the third annual Random Acts of DDF at the Mariner Theatre at 7 p.m. Jan. 19, with theatrical performances by students from Homer, Skyview, Soldotna, Kenai and Nikiski high schools. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students with all proceeds benefiting peninsula DDF teams. For information, call 235-2717.

Homer Middle School

• Friday: Ski meet, Baycrest Stadium trailhead, 2:30 p.m.

West Homer Elementary School

• Mondays/Wednesdays: 5th and 6th grade boys basketball.

• Friday: Second quarter assembly, 2:35 p.m.

• Friday: Spirit Day. Dress like your favorite athlete or for the sport like best day.

• Jan. 22-Feb. 22: Artist in the school Gail Baker
