Augustine keeps residents on toes

The eruptions of Augustine Volcano have been keeping all of us on our toes, and putting the Kenai Peninsula in the news. For those of us who have never experienced this type of activity, it is very exciting. Everyone, keep safe.

Anchor Point Senior Citizen Center

Tonight’s dinner will be Chinese. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

Chapman School

Volleyball season is in full swing. The Chapman volleyball team will play in Ninilchik at 4 p.m. Jan. 25. Bingo for Books will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 26. On Jan. 31 there will be a home game for the volleyball team starting at 4 p.m. Come on out and show your support for the team.

Anchor Point Library

The Annual Cabin Fever show will be Jan. 28 at Chapman School with Lulu Small as the star. We are looking for additional acts and would especially like to have a skit or comedy routines. Please contact Mary at 235-7910 if you are interested in participating or helping out with the show.

VFW Post 10221

If you haven’t had a chance to come and join us for karaoke, now is your chance. We will have karaoke this Saturday. Jan. 29 is the monthly fish fry. Feb. 4 is the monthly steak night. This event is from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Super Bowl Party Feb. 5. Come and cheer for your team and enjoy games, food and, yes, of course, there will be prizes given away. A special event is being planned for Snow Rondi, Feb. 23-26.

Community News

The Fifth Annual Groundhog’s Day fund-raiser for the Marine Corps League will be Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. at the VFW Post 10221 in Anchor Point. This is combined with the monthly steak night. There will be a silent auction and a Chinese auction. This fund-raiser supports Marine Corps League donations to the Young Marine Program, scholarships, community service programs, Marine Corps Youth Fitness Program, veterans’ needs and the Marine Corps Foundation. If you have any questions or would like to donate items for the auctions, please contact Warren Huff at 235-7429.
