Mountainfilm Festival makes stop in Homer
By McKibben Jackinsky
Staff writer
Telluride’s Mountainfilm Festival is making its way to Homer, thanks to Homer Community
School. The two-night visit — Jan 23 and 24 — offers more than 20 films of different
lengths, each with an intensity that brings adventure, mountaineering, environmental and social
issues, and quirky personalities to Homer’s doorstep. Different films are offered each night,
beginning with a five-minute introduction at 7 p.m. at the Mariner Theatre. Tickets for each evening
are $10 students, $12 adults and are available at the Homer Bookstore or the Community School
office. Following is a list of the films in this year’s festival.
Monday:
Ancient Marks, 11 minutes, U.S.A. This film celebrates the 2,000-year-old ritual of
tattooing and scarification, with original music composed by Anoushka Shankar, daughter of legendary
sitarist Ravi Shankar.

young woman prepares to leave behind a way of life thousands of years old and heed a call to the
city.

and outer lives.
Hockey Night in Ladakh, 10 minutes, Canada. During the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs in Calgary,
Alberta, some professional hockey players took oxygen to combat the effects of high altitude. In

Calgary.
