Randy Wiest, M.D., was recently elected chief of staff for South Peninsula Hospital’s medical staff. He will continue the work of outgoing Chief of Staff Patrick Brady, M.D. The chief of staff provides leadership for the medical staff, acting as a liaison between physicians and administration. As chair of the Medical Executive Committee, the chief of staff participates in the hospital’s strategic planning process and provides advice and guidance to the hospital’s operating board of directors. Wiest received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and is certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He currently practices at Homer Medical Clinic.
Marketing proposals sought
The Division of Agriculture is soliciting proposals for Cooperative Marketing Program projects promoting Alaska Grown products in 2007. Participants must be an authorized participant in the division’s Alaska Grown program or have written permission from the director. Applicants should submit proposals using the application found at www.dnr.state.ak.us/ag. Deadline for receipt at either the Central or Northern Region Division Agriculture offices is 2 p.m. Feb. 16.

Grants available
The Division of Forestry has announced opening of the 2007 Alaska Community Forestry Grant Program for local governments and nonprofit organizations supporting the mission of “help communities build effective, self-sustaining community forestry programs with strong local support.” A total of $12,000 is available for grants. Applicants may apply for a grant from $500 to $5,000 and must be a governmental entity or nonprofit organization with IRS 501c(3) status. Applications must be received at Division of Forestry, 550 W. 7th Ave., Suite 1450, Anchorage AK 99501 by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 20.
