After the war Pete went on to earn two Masters Degrees in Geology and Psychology at Utah State University.
Pete worked for Idaho Concrete Pipe Company, and then Salem Sand and Gravel. In 1974 Pete and his wife Samye moved to Alaska, where he went to work for the Trans Alaska Pipeline Service company. He retired in 1987 at the age of 75.
Pete and Samye lived in Fairbanks, Alaska from 1974 - 1981, and moved to Anchor Point where they lived until Samye’s death in 1994, after 53 years of marriage.
In 1999 Pete married Frankie Tiegs Schell, a close family friend of over 50 years, and lived in Caldwell, Idaho until his death.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife Samye, his step-son Michael, and his grand-son Kevin. He is survived by his second wife Frankie, his daughter Karen, of Florida, and his son Richard of Anchorage. There are many other grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and relatives too numerous to mention.
LeGrand A. “Pete” Pendrey was born in Paris, Idaho, to Arthur Thomas and Cerellda Sparks Pendrey on August 26, 1916. He spent his childhood in Bear Lake County and graduated from Fielding High School in 1934. He graduated from the University of Idaho in Moscow in 1941. He entered the US Army as an R.O.T.C. Lieutenant. Pete was with the 7th (Hourglass) Division during the recapture of Attu Island from the Japanese in May 1943. He was reassigned to the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment in the occupation of Kiska Island in the Aleutian Chain. In December 1943 the 87th rejoined the 10th Mountain Division and went on to Italy where Pete served as a Company Commander Captain. He was later awarded a Bronze Star and several Campaign Ribbon Battle Stars.
