Bill proposed to advance in-state gas line project

JUNEAU (AP) — Two Alaska House leaders are proposing legislation intended to advance an in-state natural gas pipeline project. House Speaker Mike Chenault and Rep. Mike Hawker see the bill as empowering the Alaska Gasline Development Corp., or AGDC, which is leading the in-state line efforts. The measure would incorporate three existing bills, including one establishing a fund for pipeline work.

Chenault and Hawker have supported an in-state line to help meet Alaskans' energy needs. Chenault said this bill would not sanction a project, but would allow AGDC to reach the sanctioning stage. He and Hawker are hopeful of alignment among the players behind a larger pipeline capable of export and that the in-state line could be incorporated into that.
