Student scholarships available




Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges announced a $1,000 scholarship for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at a U.S. accredited college or university. Applicants must either be conducting research or serving in an internship or volunteer program that supports the conservation of the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge system. Applications must be submitted by March 1. An application and detailed instructions can be found at www.alaskarefugefriends.org.

The American Cancer Society's Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program provides financial assistance for young cancer survivors as they pursue post-secondary education. The possible lifetime award is $10,000 per student, offered in increments of $2,500 per academic year. Applications from qualified students will be accepted through Feb. 24. The scholarships may be used for erollment and attendance tuition, fees and books required for course instruction at an accredited college, university, community college or vocation-technical school. To be eligible, students must be cancer survivors diagnosed before the age of 21; age 25 or younger at the time of submitting the application; graduating from a high school and/or continuing college in the upcoming school year; have a 2.5 grade point average and will be a full-time student.
