A meeting to discuss student transportation on the southern Kenai Peninsula will be held at the Homer High School library at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to an announcement on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District's website. A meeting was set for last Thursday, but was cancelled that day due to severe winter weather. Dave Jones, KPBSD assistant superintendent, will give a PowerPoint presentation on changes to bus routes and school start/stop times being considered since the district has been become aware that transportation costs will exceed the amount reimbursed by the state of Alaska, resulting in an annual deficit of $750,000. The public is asked to bring to the meeting ideas for solving the deficit. Also attending the meeting will be Dave Spence, director of the district's planning and operations, and other district personnel. School office personnel in the Homer area are alerting families of the meeting by noting it in online school bulletins, informing site councils and sending notes home with students. Meetings were held in Homer and Anchor Point in December. A fourth meeting will be held at the Ninilchik School library at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
