Feb. 8-9: Parent-teacher conferences

Scholarship: The $1,000 Mary and Lucian Cassetta Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by the Anchorage Symphony to a high school senior displaying musical talent, dedication and a desire to continue advanced music studies. The competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 15. For information, call the Anchorage symphony at (907) 274-8668. The Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund has announced the call for 2007-2008 scholarship and internship applications for Alaskans pursuing degrees and/or careers in education, government and public service. Deadline to apply is Feb. 16. Request applications by e-mailing cwrecord@alaska.net or writing to Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund, Attn: Tom Begich, Executive Director, P.O. Box 142711, Anchorage, AK 99514-2711. Homer Electric Association will award six $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors and adults continuing their education. For information on the following American Legion Auxiliary scholarships, call 235-6789: National President’s Scholarship, deadline March 1; Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students, deadline March 1; Girl Scout Achievement Award, deadline Feb. 10; American Legion Sept. 11th Memorial Scholarship; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 16 Scholarship, deadline May 1.

Paul Banks Elementary

Paul Banks participates in General Mills Box Tops for Education. If you have any, please drop them off at the school.

West Homer Elementary

Second Monday of the month: Site council, conference room, 5 p.m.

Mondays/Wednesdays: 5th and 6th grade boys basketball.

Through Feb. 22: Artist in the school Gail Baker.

Today: PTO board meeting, 6:30 p.m.

Friday: PTO-sponsored skate night, Homer Ice Arena, 6:30-8 p.m. Sign up at the arena for Escrip fund-raising program and skate for free. Skates available at the arena.
