Snow Rondi coming soon

By Jennifer Henley

I looked up the meaning of “village” on my computer today and got this definition: “a community of people smaller than a town.” So, then, I looked up “community” and got this: “a unified body of individuals” and “the people with common interests living in a particular area.”

It’s good to remember that this is what Anchor Point is, and the more we stand together the stronger we can become. We already show we have common interests, now let’s show our participation.

Anchor Point Chamber

Snow Rondi, with its “Starry Starry Night” theme, will be Feb. 23-26. Anyone interested in helping with this event should call the chamber at 235-2600. There will be an advisory planning meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chamber office. The main topic will be the material site permit for Ron Wilholt. The next noon luncheon will be Wednesday at the Anchor River Inn; the guest speaker will be a representative from Alaska State Troopers. There will be a board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chamber office.

Anchor Point Library

February is amnesty month. What does this mean? If you have some books that should have been returned a long time ago, you can turn them in and avoid those nasty late charges. There is a drop-off box available at the library.

Anchor Point Senior Citizen Center

Tonight’s dinner, which starts at 5:30 p.m., will be lasagna or hamburgers. Cost is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. Bingo returns Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo starts at 7 p.m. There will be snack foods available.

Chapman School

The entry forms for the dog show on Feb. 26 are available at the school. Only 30 dogs are allowed, so it will be first come, first served. There will be a volleyball game at 4 p.m. Monday at Homer Middle School. The Anchorage Opera will visit Chapman school Tuesday. There also will be workshops. There is no school Feb. 9 and 10; these dates are set aside for parent-teacher conferences. On Jan. 24, Chapman held a spelling bee. The first place winner was Jesse Stubbert, who now qualifies to continue and compete in the Anchorage Spelling Bee Challenge. Second place went to Neill Roderick and third place to Ryan Nabrot. Congratulations to all.

VFW Post 10221

Friday night is pool night starting at 8 p.m. Saturday is steak night from 6-8 p.m. The Marine Corps League also will have its Groundhog Day auctions Saturday. The Super Bowl party is Sunday with chicken and ribs and the fixings, games and prizes. If that’s not enough, we will be having karaoke after the game.

Community News

The fifth annual Groundhog’s Day fund-raiser for the Marine Corps League will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post 10221 in Anchor Point. This fund-raiser supports Marine Corps League donations to the Young Marine Program, scholarships, community service programs, Marine Corps Youth Fitness Program, veterans’ needs and the Marine Corps Foundation. If you have any questions or would like to donate items for the auctions, please contact Warren Huff at 235-7429.

The Annual Snow Rondi Pool Tournament will begin at 7 p.m. Feb 24 at the Anchor River Inn. Participants must sign up before Feb. 24. There will be a Calcutta Auction on the players that will be in the tournament.

If you have an item for Happenings in Anchor Point, please e-mail fish@xyz.net or call 235-2556.
