Memorial services are 11 a.m. Feb. 4, 2006, at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai. Pastor Jon Walters will officiate. A memorial potluck and reception will immediately follow the services at the church. Honorary pallbearers will include Robert Clutts, Walt Ward, Frank Arbelovesky, Virgil Gattenby, Larry Nudson and Steve Hansell. Military Honors will be performed by the VFW Post 10046 and the American Legion Post 20.
Mr. Egbert was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Everett, Wash. He was raised in a U.S. military family and attended schools in Washington, Hawaii and France before he graduated in 1959 from the Monterey Union High School in Monterey, Calif. Mr. Egbert entered into the U.S. Army on Oct. 23, 1963, and was awarded four shooting medals while he served. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 17, 1965, and transferred to the Army Reserves in 1968. Mr. Egbert moved to the Kenai Peninsula in 1971 and worked at the Anchor River Inn, B & B Enterprises, Dresser Atlas Seismologists and was an operator for 22 years with Unocal until he retired in1999. He was a member and former president of Peninsula Modeler’s Association. He collected and restored jukeboxes and vintage records.
Mr. Egbert was preceded in death by his father, Walter Egbert; mother, Julia Clutts; brother, Harry Egbert; aunt, Virginia Anderson; and grandmother, “Nana.”
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Egbert of Nikiski; daughters and sons in-law, Kristen and Steve Hansell of Tillamook, Ore. and Janet and Virgil Gattenby of Kenai; grandchildren, Jacit Conright of Kenai, Tony and Jonathan Hansell, both of Tillamook, Ore., and JaLeen Gattenby of Kenai; step-grandchildren, Jacob and Aaron Gattenby both of Kenai; step-brothers and step-sisters in-law, John and Dawn Clutts of Florida and Jesse and Jennifer Clutts of West Point, N.Y.; step-father and step mother in-law, Robert and Simone Clutts of Anchor Point.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the American Lung Association of Alaska, 500 W. International Airport Rd., Suite A, Anchorage, AK 99518 or to the American Diabetes Association of Alaska, 800 East Diamond Blvd., Anchorage, AK 99515.
