Great forecast for ski championships
Mariner boys cross country ski team placed first at the final invitational meet of the season in Seward last Saturday, a promising sign of things to come when championships get under way next week.
The girls took a close third, finishing 30 seconds behind Kenai.
"It was a great day of skiing in Seward our last chance to get a good hard ski in around the other schools," said Head Coach Jan Spurkland.
Spurkland said he is excited about the teams' chances in the post-season. The boys, especially, are poised to excel.
"They're doing really, really well this year," he said.
The ski team's next meet will be the borough championships in Soldotna on Feb. 12.
