July 29, 1922-Jan. 16, 2010

Longtime Seldovia resident Elaine Giles, 87, peacefully passed away in her sleep Jan. 16, 2010, in Puyallup, Wash., where she had lived the last year of her life.

Born in northern Wisconsin on July 29, 1922, Elaine moved with her family to Washington state in the late 1930s. She was a graduate of Entiat High School in Entiat, Wash. She married Larry Giles in 1944 and started a family in Ardenvior, Wash.

In 1954 she moved her family to Seldovia where she lived until a year ago. Over the years Elaine held numerous civic and city positions. She was an active volunteer in many school and civic activities in the town she loved.

Her daughter Marillyn Giles preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sons, George Giles of Mukilteo, Wash.; Les Giles and Douglas Giles, both of Seldovia; her daughter Rebecca Giles of Puyallup, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Elaine will be buried in the Seldovia Cemetery this summer.
