In court documents, troopers said a woman made a 911 call reporting her husband beat her up in the early evening of Jan. 30, but she had to wait for her husband to fall asleep before she could make the report.
The woman then drove with her children, ages two months and nine, to a Ninilchik store. Troopers allege the woman told her she and Campbell got in an argument while outside smoking on the porch.
She said she told him she met a new friend, and he became angry. She told him she was not going to live in a prison. She told troopers she should not have said that, "because she just asked for it."
According to the troopers' report: Campbell punched his wife in the face, knocked her on the ground and then grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into the house.
He then hit her again several times with a closed fist. At one point she said he stuffed a black silk bandana in her mouth, and then wrapped it around her neck and pulled it tight.
The woman told troopers it was difficult to breathe and she thought she was going to die. When she said she could not breathe, her husband said, "Good, I'll kill you." He then tied it around her mouth and behind her head.
Troopers said the woman's face was swollen on both sides of her face, and blood could be seen around and inside and outside her mouth.
She said she felt a lot of pain in her left ear. She was taken to the hospital for her injuries.
The woman said the 9-year-old child was present during the assault inside the house.
Troopers allege the boy said he told his dad to stop and was scared of his dad yelling and of what he was doing to his mother.
After the assault stopped, the woman told troopers she tried to call the police and her family, but Campbell took the phone from her and hid it. The boy later found the phone after Campbell went to sleep.
The Kenai district attorney has charged a 22-year-old Homer man with fourth-degree theft by receiving, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and concealment of merchandise after the man was alleged to have shoplifted two DVDs of "Pirates of the Caribbean" from Safeway last December. Charged was John A. Boerrigter.
In court documents, the district attorney alleges that on Dec. 26, police received an anonymous tip and contacted the owner of a local pawn shop.
The owner told police that earlier that day a 15-year-old boy had pawned, for $20, two copies of "Pirates of the Caribbean" that he said were Christmas presents.
Police contacted the boy and he said Boerrigter took two DVDs worth less than $50 from Safeway.
Boerrigter then gave the DVDs to the boy and asked him to pawn them while Boerrigter waited outside the pawn shop for the boy. Boerrigter and the boy then went to Bishop's Beach, and while the boy waited, he went off and then returned and smoked marijuana with the boy.
Police interviewed Boerrigter, and they allege in court documents that Boerrigter admitted to stealing the DVDs and having the boy pawn them "because he did not want to be identified," police said.
Homer Police charged a 31-year-old Homer man, Richard H. Lewis Jr., with fourth-degree criminal mischief, domestic violence.
In court documents, police allege Lewis got into an argument with his girlfriend, and she left the home to avoid an escalation of the argument.
When she returned a day later, she alleged Lewis broke a rocking chair, a lamp, two picture frames, a 13-inch television, two metal towel racks, a smoke eater and a ceramic tart burner.
Police allege Lewis was drinking at the time of the incident.
On behalf of his minor child, a man last week in Homer filed for and received a stalking protective order against another child through his mother. Under a new stalking law, a protective order can be granted against a person if a person believes he or she is being stalked even if both parties are children.
In court documents and in a four-page handwritten complaint, the child claims the boy made unwelcome sexual advances at the child at their school. The child alleges the boy wanted to act out sexual acts he showed the child from pornographic images he got. The child details numerous other incidents.
The order was granted.
