The shorthanded Mariner boys basketball team started Friday’s game against South Anchorage firing on all cylinders;
Homer led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter despite playing without early-season starters Jesse Leman and Noah McWilliams.
The Wolverines made a 19-10 run to close the first half and pull within 37-36.
A 21-7 third quarter and a 21-16 fourth gave South the 78-60 victory.
South recieved 20 points from Sterling Lopez;
Homer was led by Corey Sutherland’s 13 points. Keith Edens and Taylor Layland chipped in 10 points apiece.
The Mariners travel to Soldotna Friday for a matchup against the Stars.
