Martishev takes Rubber Chicken

Dennis Martishev of Voznesenka Middle School won first place at the annual Rubber Chicken Wrestling Tournament, the largest junior high wrestling tournament on the Kenai Peninsula, at Soldotna Jr. High last weekend, defeating three opponents on his way to his very own rubber chicken award. The tradition of giving out a rubber chicken developed several years ago when administration would not allow medals or ribbons to be given at this tournament.

Other Voznesenka wrestlers who did well included Platon Basargin, who placed second, Kirik Reutov who placed second, Sergie Polushkin who placed fourth, Abraam Kalugin, who won two matches, Timon Reutov, who won two matches, Ernie Kuzmin, who won one match, and Yackof Kuzmin, who won one match.
